Overview
Hydration isn’t one-size-fits-all. Differences in sweat rate and electrolyte concentration mean that what works for one athlete may not work for another.
The Beverage Chart in the Nix Solo app is designed to help you compare hydration products against your individual sweat composition (mg/oz or mg/ml), allowing you to make more informed decisions about hydration during training.
Nix Solo Beverage Chart
The Beverage Chart is located at the bottom of the Sweat Profile tab within Nix Solo. It displays a range of hydration beverages plotted according to their electrolyte concentration in milligrams per ounce or milligrams per milliliter dependent on your profile preferences.
This allows you to:
- Compare how concentrated different drinks are
- See how products differ across brands and formats
- Evaluate how closely a drink aligns with your needs
Your unique sweat composition is also plotted directly on the chart, providing a clear reference point for comparison.
Understanding Sweat Composition
Sweat composition measures how many milligrams of electrolytes you lose per ounce (or milliliter) of sweat (mg/oz or mg/ml).
This value varies widely between individuals. Some athletes fall below 20 mg/oz (0.7 mg/ml), while others exceed 100 mg/oz (3.4 mg/ml). Because of this range, hydration strategies based on general recommendations often fall short.
With your Nix data, you can:
- Quantify your electrolyte losses
- Compare those losses to what you’re consuming
- Adjust your hydration approach based on your physiology and environment
If your preferred drink isn’t listed, or if you want to add a custom drink, you can calculate its composition using the nutrition label:
- Add together the electrolyte values listed (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and chloride)
- Identify the total fluid volume in ounces or milliliters (based on serving size or mixing instructions)
- Divide total electrolytes (mg) by total fluid volume (oz or ml)
This gives you the drink’s composition which can be compared directly to your sweat composition.
How to Use the Beverage Chart in Nix Solo:
1. Start with your baseline
At the top of the chart, your sweat composition will be summarized and you see where it falls relative to the beverages displayed.
This serves as your reference point when evaluating different options and identifying drinks that most closely align with your needs.
2. Filter by environment
Sweat composition can change depending on factors like temperature, humidity, and workout intensity.
Use the filter function within the Sweat Profile tab to view how your data changes across conditions and adjust your hydration decisions accordingly.
3. Compare beverages
Each beverage is positioned based on its electrolyte concentration.
Selecting a drink allows you to view its composition based on total electrolytes, and by sodium specifically, to see how closely it aligns with your needs.
Note: Nix Preferred Partners are highlighted on the chart with a green dot and can be accessed directly from the drink card.
4. Adjust when needed
If a product you prefer doesn’t match your sweat composition, you can modify it.
The Custom Drink Calculator, available from each drink card, allows you to determine the appropriate product-to-water ratio to better match your individual sweat composition.
Conclusion
The Beverage Chart translates your sweat data into actionable guidance.
By comparing your sweat composition to the electrolyte concentration of different beverages, you can:
- Make more targeted product selections
- Adjust formulations based on your needs
- Adapt your hydration strategy across conditions
Over time, this approach supports a hydration strategy that aligns more closely with your individual physiology rather than relying on generalized recommendations.
