Isolating Your Sodium Needs

Compare total electrolyte losses versus sodium losses

While the Nix Hydration Biosensor has previously reported out electrolyte losses in aggregate, (i.e., sodium, potassium, chloride, etc.), our latest Nix Solo update showcases both total electrolyte losses and sodium losses broken out specifically.

Sodium is the primary extracellular electrolyte and plays a crucial role in regulating fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle contraction. It also helps maintain normal blood pressure. Reference this article to learn more about the roles of other electrolytes.

Based on the published literature, sodium accounts for approximately 47.4% of total electrolyte losses. While some users prefer to consider electrolyte losses in aggregate, many have asked for insight into sodium losses specifically. Once you update to version 2.49 of the Nix Solo app, both metrics will be displayed.

With the addition of this feature, users will be able to easily compare their sodium losses to the sodium content displayed on the nutrition labels of their preferred electrolyte beverages.

Read below to learn where you can see personalized sodium losses within the Nix Solo app.

Real-Time Data

The data bar at the top of the screen will include total fluid losses, total electrolyte losses, and total sodium losses in real time during a workout.

Workout Summary

Sodium losses will be displayed separately from total electrolyte losses in the full workout summary after saving along with the expanded graph view.

Note: Sodium replenishment stats will be updated in a future app release.

Workout Export

Minute-by-minute sodium losses along with sodium loss rates will be provided within columns H and I of the workout export Excel file.

Sweat Profile

A user's average sodium losses will be broken out and displayed in both numeric and graph formats within the Sweat Profile tab.

Shareable Graphics

Sodium losses will be showcased within all three shareable graphics available to users including the workout summary graphic, Sweat Profile graphic, and the All Time sweat stats graphic.

Future Improvements in Development:

Additional sodium specific improvements are in development and are expected to be complete in early Q4 2024. These include:

  • Addition of sodium losses to Garmin data fields
  • Reflection of sodium replenishment stats within the workout summary
  • Updating electrolyte beverage chart to include a view based solely on sodium values
