Use this calculator to identify what you should aim to consume in the two hour pre-workout period

Priming Calculator:

The Priming Calculator uses your Nix profile metrics, upcoming weather forecasts, and historical Nix workout data from similar environmental conditions to create a personalized pre-workout hydration strategy.

By analyzing your sweat profile under conditions comparable to those expected for your next session, the Nix Solo app combines this data with your bodyweight (entered in the profile tab) to generate individualized hydration recommendations.

Based on published literature, athletes are advised to consume 2–4 mL of fluid per pound of bodyweight during the 2–4 hours before training. Building on this guidance—and integrating your unique electrolyte data from past Nix workouts—the Priming Calculator delivers a tailored strategy to help you start your next workout optimally hydrated.

How To Use It:

To use the Nix Priming Calculator in the Nix Solo app, navigate to the Home Screen and scroll through the Calculators modal, or navigate to Settings > Calculators:

  1. Click on the Priming Calculator
  2. Select your workout type
  3. Input the date of your upcoming session
  4. Input the location (city or zip code) of your upcoming workout
  5. Review the results from the calculator. The output will show you what you should aim to consume in the two hours leading up to your workout.

Step 1:

There are two ways to find the Priming Calculator within the Nix Solo app.

Option 1: From the Home Screen find the Calculators module. Swipe until you see the link for Priming Calculator.

Option 2: Navigate to Settings > Calculators > Priming Calculator

Steps 2 to 4:

Begin filling in the details for your upcoming training session: workout type (running, cycling, brick, or other), date, and location.

Note: for the location input, enter full city name or zip code, and then hit search. Select the correct location within the listed results. In the example below, the athlete has an upcoming workout in Tempe, AZ.

Step 5:

Review the results from the calculator. Based on this athlete's historical workout data, she should aim to consume 9.5 oz of fluid and 697 mg of electrolytes in the two hour period leading up to her outdoor running workout in Tempe.

The priming calculator is available for outdoor workouts only. Additionally, athletes must have logged at least 1 workout type to get results. For example, if you only have running workouts, this calculator will not provide a recommendation when selecting a cycling workout.

Step 4:

Share or save the Priming Calculator results via email, text, or within your camera roll. This allows you to refer back to these stats as you prepare for your training session.
